President's Reflection
President Reflection
February 22nd
As I was reflecting on far our club has come in the last 12 months after going through the Covid nightmares of 2020, I was thinking of the many changes our club has successfully undergone, some through choice and others forced on us.
Probably the most important is the new meeting place after our ”homeless state” for part of 2020, which was forced on us by things out of our control – St Francis management!
And of course change, large and small, is not liked by many yet it is so important for any group be it a business, a club, an organisation, etc.
So I believe our members have accepted the changes that have been necessary for our club to move into the future as a relevant, committed and vibrant part of Rotary worldwide. It will enable us to benefit from our new members skills and expertise, spread the responsibilities of decision making from a few, and develop new projects and priorities in the years ahead.
As our founder Paul Harris said, “It is well that there is nothing in Rotary so sacred that it cannot be set aside in favor of things better.”
So I am confident we can keep on building the future of our club.

Rotary leadership training for members

Why wait for in house training at work when Rotary Leadership training provides excellent learning opportunities with fellow Rotarians. Club members Phil, Ian and Garry invested a weekend with the Rotary Leadership Institute to learn more about being effective leaders. Each participant was presented with a certificate and pin recognising them as graduates. Congratulations to our selfless members and thank you to the Institute for their excellent work.
Recycling blister packs
For the next 3 months we will be collecting empty blister packs that were used for tablets and capsules. We are keeping them out of landfill and raising awareness of just how many are used by our members in a short space of time. The 'Banish Recycling Program' receive and recycle more than one waste stream. Based in N.S.W. they also recycle coffee pods, electric toothbrush heads and mascara tubes to mention a few others. Banish will send a list of items they receive with a postable collection box and send a voucher to be used at their online store. Win/win really.
Vintage and Classic at McLaren Vale
Mark April 18 in your diary for a street parade with a difference. An event not to be missed, the Vintage and Classic is back as much fun as ever. After the COVID hiatus, this year's event is planned to make up for last year's lack. Vintage wine and Classic cars, in a picturesque landscape of gums and vines. Don't forget the charity dinner at Serafino Wines is now on the 25th, ANZAC Day, to support the local hospital. Dress in your favourite era to wow the crowds and relax afterwards at one of the many participating wineries.
Interplast update
Rotary Districts and Clubs were there at the beginning in 1983 with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons when Interplast was formed to repair bodies and rebuild lives in the Asia Pacific region. Our club has continued to support this worthwhile organisation with our latest donation of $2,000 being used to train nurses supporting the medical staff undertaking these programs on the ground. Whilst our medical teams are confined to Australia for the time being, quality online training is being used to support and continue these life saving operations. BBQ, rope winding and community breakfast dollars enable a parent suffering from burns to recover and support their family, a child to return to school and participate with his friends and a mother to receive nursing care and support after essential surgery for her baby.
